"This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the very first pride march, which was a response to the Stonewall Riots of 1969. During that time members of the LGBTQIA+ community protested police violence towards their community. Although things have drastically changed since then, there is still work to be done. This year pride looks very different under the constraints of quarantine and the protests that have swept the nation over police brutality against the Black community. But the message still remains. Pride is about celebrating and accepting a community that has been mistreated for years. And as the LGBTQIA+ community joins forces with those seeking racial equality, it it even more important that we take this moment to listen, reflect and love one another no matter who they love, who they want to be or the color of their skin."
